It wasn't really a flame. When I flame, it's a lot hotter. On the other hand, my complaint is not without merit. PruisChat has been snowed under by people starting new threads asking questions that have been answered dozens of times before. I realize that sometimes it's hard to find information with a search, but with this brake issue even our friend The Blind Guy can't miss it. I've counted at least a dozen active threads all dealing with this issue in one way or another. Adding to my snit is what appears to be a recent rash of trolls, coming onto the site to do nothing but stir up trouble. These are classic one-digit posters making inflammatory comments frequently in caps and bold. Hopefully the OP isn't one of them. Tom
Tom... I AM the OP. If you're worried that I'm a "troll", I can assure you I'm not. You seem to be an expert on the functionality of this board so you should have looked me up to realize I've been a long time member. I commonly see folks posting questions that have been answered many times over and in those cases I simply choose to not comment. Perhaps you should do the same. I'm sorry if I somehow soured YOUR browsing experience. This is a board about a car, my man. Nothing to get emotional about. Just sayin'.
Fair enough. I try very, very hard to never flame anyone, which is why I tend to get a tad excited when someone accuses me of it. It's not that I don't have the urge; I use the backspace key quite a bit. I've been touchy these last few days. My troll meter has been pegged off scale. Tom
If you post negative exprience on your Prius than you automatically become "trouble maker". No wonder people in China say human right in the US is worst then that in their country!
I call BS. That isn't the issue at all. People here gripe about all kinds of things all the time. The difference is simple. If your posts are just public tantrums that aren't factually based designed merely to stir people up, you're a troll. No matter how long you've been a member. If you're upset and are seeking information, comfort or even just some companions in misery, chances are, you'll find fellow travelers here somewhere. That's not trolling. Everyone has the right to their opinion but if it's based on obvious foolishness or outright dishonesty, people here will call you on it. That's just my opinion. I don't run this forum. I just drop in once in awhile.
And I have not read anyone on this chat site felt rear ended without a collision. You are the only one and it is serious - get it fixed.
Funny. According to Tom, the short answer to my question is "yes." And I was flamed by him for even asking. And according to you, I'm the only one! **SIGH**
I do not speak for Tom but I feel he is referring to the current recall issue - whatever name you want to give it. So he might have misunderstood you. You said you feel like you have been rear ended. I take you literally. I expect you to say what you mean and mean what you say. I have never read anyone feeling that they had a rear end collision without actually being in a real accident. A rear end collision involves a rear impact (big or small it is still an impact), noise from the impact, a jerk, a feeling in your hands and maybe a bump on your head, a feeling on your neck (if it is stronger it is whiplash), and you can't replicate the feeling just with one car. Even a small bump would involve some of this. It feels nothing like the ABS not working properly. It feels nothing like just lifting you foot off the brake. If you are feeling this, you have a big problem with your car. Stop driving your Toyota and have it towed to the dealer. If you are exaggerating - then please admit it.
I can repro the brake problem 100%. There's a pothole on the way home from work that causes it every time. If I'm hitting the brake when I hit the pothole, the brakes fail for a second and I have a "surge ahead" feeling. It's quite disconcerting, and not very safe.
We are not talking about the average "brake problem." That has been discussed in other threads. It is real, it can be reproduced, and people are discussing whether it is no problem, a minor problem, or a major problem. The OP is talking about a brake problem where it feels like somebody hit you in the back with another car. When you get a surge ahead feeling, does it feel like a rear end collision? Do you feel the bump, the crunch, and extremely small whiplash of a rear end collision when you get the "surge ahead" feeling? That's the question.
Not necessarily. When you're rear-ended while standstill your car moves forward while your foot is firmly on the brake and this produces the same "surging ahead" feeling as a result of disconnection between brake sensitivity and driver's expectation during the transition when braking over potholes.
I think losing braking is really the following sequence 1. deceleration due to braking 2. loss of deceleration, like coasting. It may feel like acceleration by some people but it is not acceleration. It is smooth. There is no whiplash. No impact. No body slam into seat. You body moves with the car. It is a one step process, suddenly the braking on both the car and the body is removed. 3. decelaration due to braking Getting rear ended is like 1. moving 2. sudden jerk, rapid acceleration due to impact. The jerk is much more severe than anything you can produce by stepping on the gas. Whiplash, Minor whiplash, micro whiplash etc depending on severity. Steering wheel jumping out of your hand or jumps a little bit if the impact is small. Body slam into seat. You body does not move with the car until after it slams into the seat. So it is two step, car goes fast first, then body slams into seat and goes fast also. 3. move some more. And if it does not feel like being in a rear end collision, and it feels just like the braking thing that everybody is talking about, what is the point of this thread by the OP? Trolling? There are other threads about the brake thing. Why did the OP start a new thread?
OK! OK! I am convicted by BS as being "foolish and outright dishonest". I sentence myself of 3 lines of hard labour writing: ice weasel thousand years:cheer2: Prius ten thousand years:cheer2: Toyota hundred thousand years:cheer2: Sorry to the OP that I hijack your thread to serve my sentence!
This type of mindless posting hurts everyone - those that are for you and those that are against you.
I am now convicted again by Rhino as being "mindless". I sentence myself of 3 lines of hard labour writing again: Rhino thousand years:cheer2: Prius ten thousand years:cheer2: Toyota hundred thousand years:cheer2: You still don't get it?!
You can set the brake on the Gen III to hold when you are on a steep hill. It is like the old Subaru "hill holder clutch". You push firmly to set it and it holds while you hit the accelerator going up hill so you don't roll back first. Before I was familiar with the brake, sometimes I set it accidentally when I braked hard then accelerated quickly. That sensation is like what you describe because you are trying to accelerate after setting the brake with out the pause you would expect when you let off the brake to accelerate up hill. Kind of a lunge forward with a quick brake. Like being rear ended, but with out the whip lash of course.
Re: oh oh look I Just replicate what you guy have been doing. Accuse every negative comment poster as "foolish and outright dishonest", "mindless" without really trying to understand the post. I had a hard time not thinking you are fighters from Toyota that were here to sent all real owner off the forum.
Sorry about the problems, but the decreased value would be temporary, I think, while the problem is being fixed. When gas prices go up again, your book value will go up too.
Re: oh oh look Okay, you got us. We are really a bunch of shills working for Toyota. On the other hand, we all get to drive free cars. I wish. Tom
