pet peeve: homonyms and incorrect word usage

I seem to notice many things that most people don't think about. Like signs on stores that say "No Animals". People are animals, aren't they? (OK, some more than others) Don't they want any customers?

 

I think about this sort of thing all of the time. For example, our local Walmart used to have a sign on the milk cooler door that said: "Keep door closed at all times". I wondered how you were supposed to buy milk? I also wondered how they got the milk inside the cooler, but I suppose they could have done that before they put up the sign.

We had a brilliant coworker who once created a similar sign for the freezer.

 

That's what's written on the front gate to our farm.
It isn't a particularly effective deterrent.

 

Maybe what you really need is a sign that says "Trespassers will be killed and eaten."

 

Or my favorite: "Trespassers will be violated."
