Updated: Toyota Recalling 270,000 2010 Prius Hybrids in Japan & US for Brake Issue

I get the braking problem about once every other day. It does feel like being rear-ended. On the old, hilly roads north of Philly's mainline, it is E/Z to replicate the braking problem. Over a sunken or slick man-hole cover, over a rumble-strip, or a speed control bump, a pot-hole, or just rough pavement. The car drives fine in snow, except when the brakes draw a 'pass' for a second which kind of makes a bad feeling deep in your stomach.

 

Cruise control fire? Run away! Ford's a death trap!

(Really is, compared to any Toyota mentioned lately.)

Since all Prius before Jan/27/2010 production are affected, I believe 100% of 2010 Prius currently in the US are affected.

The fixed Prius production started on January 28th, I think.
It take approx 2 weeks from Toyohashi port to Long Beach port, therefore the fixed Prius has not arrived in the US yet.

I wonder if the owners of Gen II Prius are going to get the middle-fingered salute? I hope not. But so far, the silence has been deafening.

The Gen II will be the next pile into the fan for Toyota. They've known about it for years, and their silence is disturbing.

I'm wondering that their line of thought is if they recall the Gen II for brake problems, it could destroy confidence in the Prius in general.

Listen to DeadPhish and quit your wining. Back in my day we didn't have these fancy regenerating brakes, we didn't even have hydrolic brakes, we used our feet. And we liked it. You can see how us real men in the old times used to brake by watching the flintstones. I think it is a documentary. Those fancy pants scientist will make you think dinosaurs and men weren't on the planet on the same time, so they added stuff to make it not look real.

Listen to your betters on this site. They know there is no problem in the gen 2. Its in the drivers. And since the brakes are the same as the gen 3, all those complaints were made up too.

Toyota is only doing this because of pressure from gm. They put all these false reports out, like the brakes didn't work right. Then they planted different software in the new cars just to fool us that toyota did it. GM is really smart, they even got the Japanese government involved and got them to make toyota look foolish. I don't know, I forgot my meds today, so thats what I think.

Watch out for the patch, I think gm made it so that the cars will crash. They and the american media really have the japanese wrapped around there finger. Don't fall for it. Don't report anything to the authorities. Be a real Prius driver. Sneeky gm and oboma, I think osama is there too to make poor toyota look bad. The truth is out there.

Well, they could stonewall and they might be able to dodge a bullet. However, they could also get run over by a freight train if they stonewall.... Remember GM and the Corvair?

Welcome back Jonnycat. You still sound bitter about your Prius. I am surprise you did not get rid of it.

 

EH, I traded that POS Prius in years ago. Luckily I did, because I'm sure the resale value is tanking now.

I'm just here to see how the apologists are dealing with the fact that Toyota makes some pretty crappy cars and has covered up failing brakes for years. Not to mention the fact that they still don't know what causes the unintended acceleration. Last year it was floormats, this year it's pedals, next year it'll be solar flares. Personally, I don't buy the pedal thing, as some Lexuses (lexi?) have been involved in accidents with the holy Denso pedals. Hrm... Toyota better get cracking on the solar flares excuse.

I don't know how you can say toyota builds crappy cars. I think you need to back that up with some hard facts. You sound like this is the first recall any car maker has ever had.

 

The poster has had a hate campaign against the Prius and certain members herein for years. This is his chance to jab a sharp stick into his opponents. Nothing too serious here it's just the internet.

 

My 2005 at 142,000 miles is perfect, TYVM. It has no issues at all, it's solid as a rock, drives and handles perfectly, gets 45 to 51 mpg day-in and day-out. I'm looking forward to the next 140,000 miles of actually driving it instead of hoping someday in the 2020's of being able to afford ... a Volt!!!! ( :noidea: )
