Seems like Ford's problems are not related to the ABS.

From reading the story on MSNBC, it reads identical to the Toyota problem.

The momentary "lurch" as the braking transitions from Regenerative to Hydraulic is there in the Fusion Hybrid and Escape Hybrid too.

Why? Because it uses the same Power Split Device system as the Prius!

There is also a momentary coasting when braking over a bumpy road, when the computers temporarily cut out regenerative braking in the PSD to prevent the MG2 motor/generator from overloading. This feels like a sudden "acceleration."

Personally, I don't think it's a problem. It's a predictable behavior that you can anticipate and compensate for as you get used to the car.

Ford is offering to upload a new version of software to decrease the time it takes to transition from regen to hydraulic, and to make the system less sensitive to bumpy roads so the computer won't do that protective MG2 cut-out as often.

I think that's what Toyota will be offering for the Prius too-- Just a software upgrade.

Well, all the psd hybrids, except I haven't seen the Altima nor the HiHy mentioned yet.
But not IMA, 2-mode, BAS, etc. hybrids. Yet.

So Ford fixed their brakes 10/17/2009 and CONCEALED this probably fatal safety issue from the buying public?! Oh my...
