Last Saturday I was driving along when I noticed that the left console display (the one with the speedometer, gas meter, etc.) on my 2010 Prius stopped working. It was working one minute and the next time I looked down it wasn't. I restarted the car, dimmed the dash controls back and forth, and tried everything else I could think of but nothing got it to come back on, even after a few days. So I took it to my dealership this morning. They just called and don't know what the problem is yet, but they're setting me up with a rental until they can get it fixed. Has anyone else heard of this happening?
Someone on PriusChat posted that a piece of paper was on their dash, slid forward, and blocked the "window" below and in front of the speedo readout where the information is actually projected from within the dash. Removed the piece of paper, and voila! Speedo/fuel/mileage returned. Might you have something there? Admittedly, the dealer should have checked this first. But I thought I'd mention it...
Any news for this issue? I had the same problem with a 2010 Prius. I was driving normally when suddenly the screen flashed 2 times and went off. It didn't come back yet.
I had the same problem with the left-side display with the speedometer, gas level display, shift display, etc. After 10 or so turn off/restarts the problem was still there. Toyota roadside assistance said not to drive the car and sent a wrecker to tow it in. The display came back on at the dealership. Dealership provided a rental car and kept my car all day. They said first the problem was that my display switch was turned all the way down. That was not it because that turns off the whole display. Then the dealership said that the display was dim because it was dark when I first started the car, but then again that wasn't it, and it also would have affected the entrie display. No paper was on the dash. The problem is still unsolved.
Mine went out several weks ago. Took it in to the dealer. They spent an hour diagnosing the problem and ordered a new display. Replacement of the display took 3 hours.
I think it's interesting that all the posters on this thread who've had this problem have model #III. Has it happened to any II, IV, or V?
@OZ123--The dealership said they could not reproduce the problem. They said all I could do is wait for it to happen again and bring it in. Was yours still out when it was at the dealership? BTW, page 175 of my Prius owner's manual states: IF THE SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS -The following situations indicate a problem with the system. Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact your Toyota dealer. (the fourth scenario) .The instrument cluster does not come on with the "POWER" switch is in ON mode.
Thank you all. I was able to find & remove the foreign matter that was floating around partially blocking my display.
So, I am having the same problem, but with the RIGHT display, the one with MPGs, car info, etc... the speedometer one is fine and working correctly. It happened today after jump starting the car. Tried restarting a few times but no luck I'll have to bring it in to the dealer this week.
good news! It works now Idk what changed, but I let it sit all afternoon and when I went to use it tonight it was working again.
Interesting considering I was told this had not happened to any other 2010 Prius. I was six hours into a seven hour drive and my speedometer and gas gauge just disappeared. I took it to a dealership in Pensacola and they said they had never heard of this happening. They opened a case with tech support. They couldn't fix it in time for me to be back in Orlando, so I drove seven hours back to my local dealership and dropped it off. They contacted tech support with my case number and were advised to replace a certain part. They did so and still no speedometer. Today a second part arrived, but I haven't received a status update. My car has been inoperable for two weeks now.
Last Sunday I was driving back from Wisconsin when the left side of the display went blank. At one point when i powered down and then back up the display faintly reappeared and then dissappeared for good. I brought it to the dealer yesterday. They initially wanted to blame the failure on a very slow moving fendor bender from last winter causing a loose wire but ultimately said that the Warranty would cover it. They ordered the parts and I have a loaner/renter car until it is fixed - hopefully in about 5 days.
Ok well I had this problem and I solved it by removing the connections from the battery. I used a wire brush to clean the leads then placed the negative followed by positive terminal. I tightened the connections super tight. Car works normal now.
I have a 2010 with 135k. While driving home an hour into a 2 hr drive, my left side instrument panel went out. I checked some fuses with no luck. I did hear a buzzing noise that went away when the dash went out. The buzzing noise is a high pitched shrill that would always go away if I restarted the car. This time, I didn't stop to reset the shrill. It is cold out but 20s cold not below 0 cold.
