Update: Toyota has posted an official release indicating that this safety recall does not affect the 2010 Prius. It does affect the 2004-2009 Prius (as well as the following cars: • 2007 – 2010 Camry • 2005 – 2010 Avalon • 2004 – 2009 Prius • 2005 – 2010 Tacoma • 2007 – 2010 Tundra • 2007 – 2010 ES350 • 2006 – 2010 IS250 and IS350 Mods, can this post title be edited to reflect updated information, and move to the Gen 2 forum? Original Post: Watching CNBC a few minutes ago, and they announced that Toyota has issued a recall for certain 2010 vehicles, apparently including the Prius. The recall is related to the clips that hold the floor mats in place, and if they fail, can cause the floor mats to get stuck on the accelerator, causing an accident. Details to follow... This seems to much much wider that the Prius, as it affects many Toyotas from 2004 through 2010, apparently including all Toyoto Prius from 2004 through 2010 * Edit 3:33 Central Time: All we know now is that the recommendation is to simply remove the driver's side floor mat, and not replace it until a new fastener hook is replaced.

The Free Press article also lists the 2004-2009 Prius, and it doesn't mention the 2010 models. Good catch. I posted this thread as soon as I heard it on CNBC. When they discussed it, they mentioned only that vehicles from 2004-2010 were affected, but the graphic they showed on the screen was that of a White 2010 Prius V with AT. I'll wait to see if the official release from Toyota mentions the 2010 Prius, or ask to have this thread moved to the main Prius forum.
You have to be comfortable with your decision to buy a car. If the recall bothers you, then maybe you should buy another can brand. That being said, isn't it possible to buy another brand and then have a recall for that car? I would not trade my 2010 Prius for any other car. After owning 10 different cars in my lifetime and driving over 1 million miles, my Prius is the best car I have ever had and the most fun car to drive. Good luck in whichever car you decide to buy. There is nothing more exciting than buying your first car. There is a thrill when you first sit in it and inhale the new car smell.
The title of this thread is VERY VERY VERY misleading as there is NOT any 2010 Prius recall...could it please be changed???
I would echo what neilz said. We are very satisfied with our 2010 and would repeat the purchase without a doubt. The potential issue troubling some here has to do with a sense that the brakes cut out sometimes, like when you hit a bump approaching a turn. Not sure what will come of that one, but just so you can look for those threads. We also like our Honda Fit Sport (2008). It lacks the mpg of the Prius, but is very versatile for cargo, and significantly less costly, fwiw. I would buy it again, too, but I really love the Prius. Good luck to you.
My 2010 Prius is the only car I've ever owned that has not been recalled. But I've had it only seven months. Based on history, with three other brands, I don't expect this Toyota to shatter the mold. Eventually it is probably going to get recalled for something. Pay attention to the recalls, get any recall inspections or modifications done promptly, and learn to recognize and respond to the alleged problems that are getting publicity. So far, all of them can be either prevented, or recognized and resolved promptly if you know what to expect. Like most other car recalls, these possible Toyota risks are a tiny fraction of our total traffic risk. I'm not giving up my Prius, because its handling and crash safety improvements are a huge step forward from the car it replaced, greatly outweighing the items getting publicity now.
The recall concerns pedal assemblies made in North America and put into Toyotas made in North America. No Priuses are made in North America. So this recall does not affect us.
I am concerned also that the Prius was the first one to report a gas pedal was sticking. The answer was it was the floor mat. Doesn't it seem a little funny that maybe the Prius real problem was not the floor mat. I still find its hard to believe it was the floor mats.
Hate to say this, but I'm glad no american union workers made my 2006 prius. oh yeah, my car always accelerate fast and speeds up to 70's somehow around beltway. weird. must be the gas pedal stick problem, or floor mat..or driver's lead foot.
I wonder... if.... "Officer... it was that recall problem with the sticky accelerator that caused the car to go that fast.... I swear!" would work. I agree with the rest on how great a car the Prius is. I have an 07 Prius and absolutely love it.
