It must be the silly season. Excuses include: ran out of inventory ran out of cell phone towers changing promotional system Mostly I'm amused and wait for the day Apple and AT&T decide to part ways. Bob Wilson
Apple should poll their potential customers to find out how many would never consider getting an iPhone if it means signing up for a contract with AT&T. I count myself in that group.
verizon sucks, particularly because we're not with them by choice but by buyout. but it's always consolation to hear what nonsense AT&T customers are putting up with now.
Apparently from other posts on this topic I have read you can still go to an AT&T store (or Apple Store) in NYC and get an iphone. One speculation was that many iphones that showed up jailbroken in Europe came from people in NYC ordering online. But that is just speculation from other chat boards.
We had Verizon before. They may be evil, but at least your phone can get a signal. AT&T has a crappy network + bad customer service. My GF and I both had PacBell Wireless > (which became) Cingular > (and now is) AT&T. And both times when we cancelled the service after the contract had run out, they (PacBell/Cingular/AT&T) sent us notices threatening to turn us over to collections/ruin our credit even though the bill was already paid in full. In fact my GF had overpaid them by ~$ 30 -35 and it took them a year to finally refund her money. They suck.
