I just noticed the other day that the sun was really bad in my eyes. Where is the front windshield tint strip accross the top of the window?? Every other car I ever owned had this, Wth Toyota???
They may have left it out because of the Lane Keep Assist camera in Advanced Technology package, similar to the decision to make the spolier black rather than color coded in all trims even though it's specifically to coordinate better with the Solar Roof look. A member reported that installing an aftermarket trim interfered with it.
Eh, not really. If you look at a lot of cheaper cars, they don't have a tint strip. Even the Lexus IS doesn't have one, but the ES (one step up) does. I always thought like you, that all cars had them because every car I've ever had did, but there are cars that don't.
When I had my new 2007 windows tinted, I also had the top 6" - 8" of the windshield tinted. Works perfectly.
Yeah, well, even if it wasn't for cost savings they probably won't do it anyway for the Gen 3 because of LKA. They're going to streamline production whenever possible and probably won't include it only on the II through IV but not V (or V with ATP), as is the case with color coded spoiler.
I've never had a Toyota that had the tinted strip at the top. In fact I think most cars from Asia don't have the tint.
Most Toyotas have it actually, only the cheaper ones don't...and not all the cheaper ones...its odd. The windshield is different for the LKA anyways, as it is for cars with auto wipers and without.
Different how? I know the sensor for the auto wipers sits inside the glass but the LKA camera goes behind the glass in the same compartment as the sunglasses holder. Theoretically speaking, if they tint the top of the windshield they won't be able to use the glass for LKA but if they skip it they can use it for both and apply whatever inside shading to cut down on glare for the camera.
The OP is in PA, which does not allow any tint on the windshield, that varies by state. Pennsylvania Window Tint Law - TintCenter.com Pennsylvania has a divided history of state law versus state enforcement. PA Window Tinting Law, Statutes, and Regulations
Then why did the GII Prius not have a tint strip? No LKA. The sensor for the wipers sits behind the glass too. The difference is in the trim around the edges of the glass. Should you ever need to order a windshield for your Prius you will have to specify LKA or not, same as I have to specify auto wipers or not on the Lexus. Its a different piece of glass. And the LS460 has a tint strip and LKA...thats not the issue.
