Should be Interesting, they are doing an energy smart road test of all the major hybrids, Toyota Prius, Honda and Ford Fusion(why the Camry isnt there?), and the VW, & Audi TDI, and the SMart forto. I wonder hod badly they will fudge up the numbers, by now they should have at least one or two people on staff that know how to drive a hybrid efficiently. If not they should hire some of us that do.
Motorweek airs on PBS, so the schedule is up to each individual station. See below: http://www.mpt.org/motorweek/carriage2009.pdf
Here is the link to the video. http://video.pbs.org/video/1275623167/ The results are: Prius 49.2 mpg Insight 40.5 mpg Fusion Hybrid 32.9 mpg VW TDI 36.2 mpg Audi A3 TDI 38.2 mpg Smart 42 35.2 mpg
They suck at driving the Fusion. I find it hard to believe it gets worse than the Camry Hybrid. Heck I got 35 on a nearly dead battery test driving one. I always did between 35 and 40 MPG in the Camry. I'll be there are a lot of people here who will say the same thing about the Prius. Heck I averaged 52 MPG in a Gen II during the summer, and drove it a lot harder than they did.
FWIW, from the table at Most fuel-efficient cars, CR pegged the FFH as having the same overall mileage as the HyCam.
Like I said, they didn't drive it right. I got good consistent 38 MPG in the TCH, they should at least have gotten near that, not the measly 32.9. The thing is, I didn't hyper mile it a lot, yet still got good MPG. I saw 31 MPG on the highway, with a big 3.5L V6 in the Fusion Sport, so I dont see how they got such low mileage in the Hybrid.
