With all the seat mods out there and the favorable ratings of the new prius seats, is it possible to put a Gen III seat in a Gen II? without bolt modification and plugging in the same connectors? A plug and play type mod? Hopefully . . . anyone with both Generations in the garage that can take a look?

Man this would be such a significant upgrade, I wish it was getting more traction! Has anyone heard anything about someone trying the swap??

I'm going to post this in gen III as well to see if anyone responds

Do Gen III cloth seats have lumbar support? If they don't, I can't justify it.

Leather has lumbar (power), cloth does not...

I must be a strange driver, but I never mess with my lumbar even on long trips. What I would use, had the Prius had it, is seat cushion adjustability for the front and back as separate positions. Basically, yes, it does need a 6 or more way power drivers seat.

I measured the width between front bolts on the Gen3 driver's seat - it's about 16.5"

Unfortunately, the Gen2 is about 15.5".

Although I don't know for sure, I seriously doubt the electrical connectors and pinout are the same on the Gen3 and Gen2.

There's a way to do it, but wouldn't seem easy. Plus, if you get that nicer Gen3 seat in your Gen2 and no telescopic steering wheel, you might be disappointed.

One more thing, a Gen2 driver seat w/ airbag from Toyota costs about $2,500, and the Gen3 seat might cost more. Used Gen3 seats will come available as cars get wrecked.

If you need more seat travel, like I did, get a set of www.extendmyseat.com brackets.

When removing seat for bracket installation, is it necessary or advisable to diconnect 12 volt battery to prevent seat back air bag deployment? ..... Tortus

There is no lumbar support in our Gen III, cloth seats. My wife uses a small pillow for lumbar support, although the seat is fine for me.

Yes it is necessary to disconnect the 12V battery and you must wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the 12V before disconnecting the yellow airbag wire underneath the seat. Instructions are posted in another thread, not sure where.

I used to walk away for a couple minutes after disconnecting the 12V just to be safe.

Oooh boy, you are way up there in height for being in a Gen2 Prius.

Headroom is pretty good for many tall people in the Prius because of the curved roof. Seeing traffic lights out of the windshield - good luck with that.

My solution was to blend a used Prius seat with a used Corolla seat to get height adjustment along with sliding back farther than stock and seat bottom reshaping.

I have to give my original seat about a 3.5 / 10. My custom seat and overall seating in my 2009 now .... from 7 to 7.5 of 10. Lot of work, but less painful than losing over $10k selling the car.
