This is my first log on my new Prius: After dropping off the 06 BMW X3 back to the dealer at lease end, I went straight over to the Toyota dealer to pick up my new Prius yesterday. The salesman handed over the smart key to me and pointed to the car that I had ordered three weeks ago. I was overwhelmed with the new car smell when I stepped inside but then I realized something wasn’t right. Where is the leather seat package that I ordered? They are still the fabric seats. The salesman later explained to me that it was their oversight mistake. Hello, didn’t I pay “PDI: PRE-DELIVERY-INSPECTION †fee? How could they have missed this important feature which is written in the contract? Whoever did the PDI must be illiterate! I was left with two options: (A) Refuse the delivery and order a new one. The waiting time will be 3-6 weeks. (B) They will order the “leather kit†from the “Toyota Appointed OEM Supplier at Vancouver, BC and have their own people to install it. It will be about 7-10 days for completion. The car is beautiful but their mistake had ruined part of my excitement in getting a new car. I had no choice but to take Option B because I must have a mean of transportation right the way. (Want to know which dealership? It’s the DVNT, Toronto.) Now back to the quality of the car. I didn’t drive it too much today but it’s so quiet inside. It is as quiet as the 07 BMW 530 that I tried before. At times, I wished for traffic jam so that I could use the battery power instead of burning the fuel and puffing CO to the friendly earth. I didn’t push the car too much today but I’m happy with it for the first day (except having no leather seats). I wish to share my joy with everyone here and thanks to those who gave me their comments on the Prius before.
Congrat on your new car. You can get cheaper and better leather seat upgrade from aftermarket. From what I see at the dealership, the port upgrade is not good at all.
From what I understand, the leather kit makes part of the difference in quality, but it is the quality of install that's also important (someone who gives a darn about your car).
Was this your salesman? Did they already crush your old car by the time you found out about the leather?
Thanks for your suggestion. I did consider the aftermarket but couldn't find a single reliable shop in Toronto who can do it at the similar price level as the Toyota original. The Toyota leather seat package also comes with heated elements which is a very useful feature in our great white north country in winter.
Hey, that's him. (Just kidding.) As I said, I returned my X3 at noon, went to pick up the Prius at 3pm. Had no choice but to take the car in "as is" condition. They said they've ordered the leather kit and will install it next week. Today, I called the dealership and complained to the GM directly about this.
But an aftermarket setup will get you synthetic leather door trim and centre console cover. The dealer-installed leather uses factory leather, yes but strictly on the seating areas only.
I had my aftermarket leather put in by Supreme Upholstery in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He did a fantastic job, and it only took a day. It included heated seats too. It was done through the dealer, but I know it was no more than $1800.
Wich trim did you get on your Prius? I was thinking to get the Techno package but i think for 38 000$ plus tax here in Canada its too much for a bunch of gagdet ( parking assist, sunroof ( in Quebec i would use it 3 months a year ) that wont hold the value of the car anyway, so i think i am ordering a 2011 Touring with leather package in ribbon blue of winter gray!
