2010 MPG Stats - Post Them Here

Ya, you gotta reengage pwr mode everytime you start the car (if u want to use it continuously this way). What was stranger to me is that you can do PWR and EV mode at the same time.

I ran with ECO mode for the first two months of my 2010's life. I hated the slow acceleration from stop, but i guess it was a price to pay for good milage. Then when I saw the I-Love-PWR thread, I tried it, and liked the quicker starts and accel. (from stop). and I actually got better milage (like around 49.5 to 52.0, but some of it may be due to seasonal factors like cold, rain, winter blend gas).

My fill up today is a new personal best, 66.1 mpg over 321 miles.

It's important to note that I've been running 5w30 Mobil 1 oil for the last 3 tanks with no ill effects on mileage whatsoever but please keep that discussion to a separate thread.

See my Fuelly page below for full history and details. There are only two big drops in mileage since I've owned it and they were two road trips in steep hills at high speeds.

 

I have a 2010 Prius III; best mileage I have gotten is 43.0 This is just judging from the display panel. Should I be calculating differently? I am doing mostly surface street driving with a few short trips on the freeway. I live in San Francisco so there are often uphills and I notice on the display worse mileage when I am going uphill.

Should I expect better? Or am I calculating wrong?

By the way, I can't figure out how to start a new post, only to reply. Anyone can fill me in really quickly?

 

It seems like those who live in the hilly areas of SF often have worse milage than those of us in the flat lands. So yes, your mileage could be pretty normal for your area. I used to avg. 52mpg till my new job had me commuting uphill 1,000 extra feet. Now it is more like 48mpg (with the stock wheels).

You won't find the New Thread button if you are in a thread. Go to the top of the page and click the name of the forum to go up one level.

And yes, you won't get good mileage if you are in a hilly area or with a lot of stop and goes. My area is not like SF, but it's pretty hilly and there are a lot of traffic lights. I can't get higher than lower- to mid-forties driving around locally.

 

I recently traded my 07 Touring Pkg 6 in for a 10 #5 (no solar). I drove the 07 like a normal car and got 44+/-. I'm driving my 10 the same and only getting 42. The first day after we got it we took a drive about 30 miles on the freeway then 20 miles around town and back 30 miles freeway. 51+! Same tank of gas and the 1-1/2 tanks since has been around 42. Wassup? It's been in the 30's and 40's and raining a bit. I'm not sure if they're putting Ethanol in the gas yet but from the same tank from 51 to 42? I talked to the dealer and "if no light is lit, everything is within acceptable parameters". I don't intend to drive it like a marshmallow. I don't need kto be an MPG Elite". I just would like to know why it's not getting at least as good if not better mileage than my 07. It also feels like it needs more throttle just to keep it on step. thoughts???

 

just got gas and got a double whammy...

1) first tank on winter gas. 541.9 mles, 56.7 on display, pump cal 49.5 MPG....bummer, a penny per mile increase in cost... MOSTLY due to

2) 20 cents per gallon higher than last time i got gas 10/13....

abosman, I am also in MI and am definitely seeing my mileage trend downward with the falling temps. Much of my driving is short trips where I don't have an opportunity to completely bring the ICE up to temp. I've blocked the lower grill 100% and last week took a 15 mile or so trip and saw the mileage climb significantly so it shows again how much the 2-3 mile trips I often do hurt mileage. My last tank was the first with a calculated MPG that dropped below 50.

 

I now have nearly 5000 miles on my 2010, the tires are kept at 42/40. Last tank 9.46 gallons for 492 miles=52 mpg. Display said 54.2. Seems to be consistantly about 2mpg generous. Temps are dropping in Wisconsin so sometimes the ICE is running at stop signals.

Best tank was 51 according to the car. More recently it has been more like 48. Our calculated mileage is worse, currently showing 45 mpg. We got the car in August and mileage has steadily declined. I chalk it up to operator error as we no longer treat the car like it's made of glass. My wife is the primary driver and she told me she just drives it like she would any other car. Daily drives are in typical Austin traffic: Stop and go, some highway, hills, etc. Weirdly the traffic got much more congested after the time change. "Fall back" apparently meant slow down for no reason to many people here. I do not know maybe they are afraid of the dark.

Oh and 4400 hundred miles at this point.

 

With over 15,000 miles on our Prius I have come to expect that you WILL NOT get 50 MPG average during winter driving. At least in most states that have winterized Ethanolized gasoline.

The realistic average for real world driving is more like 40-45 MPG.

Sure, in the summer 50 MPG or over is quite possible.

I went through this whole thread and looked for model V's. With the exception of one moderator and a hyper miler or two the most common posting is 40 to 45 MPG. My numbers are very close to what cantgoback reported in post #156. Here are my stats:

This is a mix of city and highway, about 50/50. Highway is 65 to 70 MPH. I tend towards 70 and the wife 65. The Prius is hers and she drives 3 miles each way to work, which is not helping. The vehicle was just in for the 5k service and I asked the dealer to do a health check while they had the computer connected to change the rear beep. They said all systems are OK. If other people are accurately reporting mileage numbers, then we are getting 4-5 MPG lower with the model V package. Most of the posts I have read say 2 MPG less with the 17" wheels. Unless something else is lowering the numbers, it looks more like 4 or 5.

Did I get a lemon? I'm only getting 45 at the best, and now that it's cold, I'm getting less.

 

I have only owned the 2010 model III for a few weeks and have filled it up twice. The first tank was about 48 MPG and the second about 46 MPG. This is in the Cleveland Ohio climate (getting colder now).
Most of the driving has been city, maybe 90% city/10% highway.

 

Picked up my red Prius III in September. Just passed 5000 miles December 8. Actual milage calculation at last fillup was 4913 miles used 94.2 gal or 52.155 mpg. I note some forum comments about the discrepancy between the actual milage and the computer-calculated milage. My computed milage showed 52.7, pretty good considering. Most of my driving was around town with one trip to New England. Given it is now winter in Eastern PA, it will be interesting to see how the Prius performs in the cold season.

 

interesting. you having received yours after feedback had been received verese mine was one of first received and you can see by my sig, there is a huge difference. makes me wonder if this is dealer adjustment for this that has not been announced?

can you post specifics? miles driven, dates of fillups, amount of gas, etc?

 

Had 3 weeks, drove 245 miles and got 36.8 mpg. (graph said 39.3). It has been cold here and have short drive to work. Have been using the normal mode after realizing you didn't have to have it in one of the 3 modes (was wondering why sluggish). So will try the eco mode to see if there is much of a difference.
