What happens if the serpentine belt breaks will prius still drive? My 04 Prius starts but does not drive all dash lights are on.
The belt is needed to spin the engine water pump. I don't recommend you drive the car with a missing belt, as the engine will quickly overheat.
So did your engine belt break? Am wondering if your engine overheated, could you provide more details.
I went to the dealer yesterday for an oil change at 150000 miles they said my serpentine belt was cracking and they could replace it for $116. I declined. I bought the belt for $16.99 and replaced it myself in about 25 minutes.
1a) Do you know what the engine water pump belt looks like? 1b) Do you know where to find the belt? If you are able to answer yes to both questions, you should be able to rule out the obvious: a missing belt, that broke off. 2) If the dash lights are on ... get the codes read.
